This Earth Day we thought because we're all dreaming of the days we can travel again we would take a moment to think about a few things we can do in our own communities to do our part and help out! So here are our Top 5 in no particular order of things you can do to limit your environmental impact!

Conserving Energy

This is something we have all heard of doing since we were young. Switching off lights, turning the television off at the mains, and using cooler washing cycles could have a much bigger impact on reducing carbon dioxide emissions from power stations than previously thought!

Incorporate more meatless recipes

You don’t have to completely give up meat to make a difference! Even incorporating a ‘Meatless Monday’ once a week can have a positive effect. Reducing the consumption of meat can help contain the production of greenhouse gases that impact climate change. It can also help lessen the demand for precious environmental resources such as land, water, and energy. Did you know skipping one serving of beef every Monday for a year saves the equivalent emissions of driving 348 miles in a car!

Use reusable containers

One example of this everyone can try and do is convert to a reusable water bottle! A reusable water bottle takes less oil to produce, replaces all the plastics that you would have used and thereby reduces both your carbon footprint and helps reduce the plastic burden on landfills, oceans, streams, and other places where plastic waste ends up.

Pick up trash when you go for a walk

Believe it or not, especially in these pandemic times when people are bored at home, the popularity of being a plaker has grown! What is a plaker you ask? It is simply someone who picks up litter, throws it into a designated receptacle, and gets a good walk in while doing this. This is a simple way to clean up your local area and get some fresh air while doing it!

When decluttering don’t throw out reuse!

Another thing many of us find ourselves doing while being stuck at home is taking this time to declutter. This is great, but did you know there is an eco-friendly way to go about this? Instead of contributing to the growing volume of our landfills try decluttering in one of these ways!

  • Repurpose items to give them extended use
  • Donate the materials you can’t use yourself
  • Try and sell the items you aren’t using
